In May 2007, the people of Scotland once again go to the polls to choose a government. Although there will be several parties on the ballot, there are only two real choices - moving Scotland toward the benefits of sovereignty or holding the nation back indefinitely with the "safe" choice of devolved government and status quo. The choice seems easy enough. What citizen would not want his or her country to enjoy full control over legislation, finances, foreign policy, and other essentials? The more accurate question to be asked is perhaps this one - what citizen has the ability and resolve to look past the scaremongering of unionist parties and through the bias of the media to make the best choices for his or her nation?
Neither the unionist parties nor the media can downplay or disregard the current national swing in favor of the Scottish National Party, the only major party that supports full sovereignty for Scotland. The latest opinion polls, from within the parties themselves and from independent polling organisations, show the SNP establishing a clear lead over Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Conservative Party, and others. At no other time since the Scottish Parliament was re-established in Edinburgh in 1999 has support for the Scottish National Party been so strong nation-wide.
The reason for this swing? Labour have taken their devolution project as far as it can go. Only the Scottish National Party can take it from here, as only they have, built into their vision for Scotland, a government run by Scots for Scots and a nation free to forge an exciting future.
